Tatianna Suriel
Organizational Development Specialist
Tatianna Suriel was raised in Cabarete and has had no choice but to be a part of the Mariposa community as in a way, she was the inspiration. Daughter of Founder and Executive Director, Patricia Suriel, Tatianna was a volunteer from the very beginning, teaching classes, and filling in where needed. Eventually in 2019 Tatianna served as an intern at Cabarete Coffee Company where she acted as the first point of contact for clients and groups visiting to learn about Mariposa’s mission and vision and assisted in maintaining client/potential donor contact information. Tatianna also served as an editor for the annual fundraiser and magazine Cabarete: Responsible Tourism and Investment Guide in 2022 and 2023. Tatianna joined Mariposa full time in March of 2023.
Prior to joining Mariposa, Tatianna served as the Manager of Development and Special Initiatives at College for Social Innovation, a Boston-based nonprofit dedicated to creating high-impact learning experiences for low-income, first generation, and students of color through mentored internships where she aided in raising over $1.2 million in philanthropy annually. Tatianna has further experience in the nonprofit sector connecting low-income residents to energy efficiency and affordable renewable energy programs in Massachusetts gateway cities and as an intern and founding-member of a collective impact initiative, Geneva 2030’s Bilingual Education Action Team, dedicated to increasing kindergarten readiness, literacy success, STEAM success, improve graduation rates, college and career readiness, and Spanish and English bilingual education in Geneva, New York.
Tatianna earned her B.A. from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY where she majored in Anthropology-Sociology and Women’s Studies and minored in Spanish and Hispanic Studies. In the fall, Tatianna will be pursuing her Masters of Environmental Science and Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Tatianna is focused on the importance of organic agriculture, marine ecosystems, and fighting plastic pollution including through her leadership of the new and revised edition of Mariposa’s Eco-Heroes book series. She hopes to help bridge the opportunity gap and increase collective accessibility to an environmentally sustainable future while building meaningful relationships and serving underrepresented communities.
