Rebeca Dugue
Community Liaison and Health & Wellness Teacher
Originally from Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, Dugue moved to the north coast at a young age and has now lived in Cabarete for over 20 years. Dugue graduated from Centro de Aprendizaje y Desarrollo Integral (CADIN) and then was awarded a scholarship to go on and attend UTESA Puerto Plata where she studied Psychology while working full time. Her desire to study Psychology came from always enjoying working with people and supporting individuals’ wellbeing. From a young age, she worked with various communities by leading reading-clubs and organizing early childhood programming for parents.
While Dugue learned a lot during her studies, she believes that experiential learning and practice are key. Dugue attributes the majority of her knowledge to her time at CEPROSH – Center for Promotion and Human Solidarity, which develops programs and educational resources focused on the prevention and management of HIV/AIDS and STIs. There she learned how to perform diagnostic tests, perform psychological evaluations, and complete reports. Dugue has been with the Mariposa Foundation since 2017 and is a key member in ensuring the Mariposa girls’ receive appropriate health and wellness. For Dugue, it is a pleasure to dedicate her energy and love where the results of her work are apparent. Dugue is a resilient person and is grateful to learn from the Mariposa girls and all of life’s lessons.
