Our Mission
Our mission is to end generational poverty by educating and empowering girls to become leaders in their families, communities, and beyond. Guided by dignity, equity, sustainability, and girl-centered design, we are building a global network that elevates girls' voices, creates safe and inspiring spaces, and models sustainable solutions for communities facing rapid development and climate vulnerability.
Our Vision
To create a model that can be adapted around the world for a holistic girls’ education and empowerment program to end generational poverty.
THE MARIPOSA CENTER FOR GIRLS
the largest safe space for girls in all of latin america and the carribean.
Creating a model for the world.
A first-rate facility that inspires achievement: In the fall of 2012, The Mariposa DR Foundation purchased a large piece of property in the town of Cabarete that was formerly a private school. It had been vacant for two years, was run-down and needed extensive repairs. We transformed the entire area into a beautiful facility where girls come to engage in sports, receive academic tutoring, have access to libraries and computers, receive job and life skills training and health and wellness care. For the girls, having their own space allows them to develop healthy relationships with mentors and other girls in the community, and feel empowered to make a difference in their lives, their communities and the world. Our innovative center attracts visitors from all over the globe. It is a place where volunteers, educators and girl champions can share knowledge on how empowering girls will lift entire families out of generational poverty.
Invest in a girl and she will do the rest

For the girls, having their own space allows them to develop healthy relationships with mentors and other girls in the community, and feel empowered to make a difference in their lives, their communities and the world. Being in a beautiful space has positive effects on learning, social behavior, and emotional wellness. Often in times of crisis the arts are not considered essential, but the arts have always been a thread throughout all the work the MDRF does.
