Freddy is one of the founders and major backbones to Cabarete Coffee Company’s operation. Born in La Cantera, Rio San Juan – a small coastal yet mountainous community roughly 45 km east of Cabarete, Freddy moved to Cabarete at a young age where he was raised. Him and his wife Patricia, along with their children Nico and Tati, were the original founders of Cabarete Coffee Company before gifting the coffee shop and restaurant to the Mariposa Foundation in 2017. The Suriel family, responsible for testing and developing all of the recipes, their stamp can still be found on the menu through the signature Mocha Tati, named after their daughter.
One of ten children, Freddy was raised surrounded by siblings, cousins, neighbors, and friends his entire life where they spent much of their time exploring hidden sites, the countryside, and the shores of the North Coast. While Freddy is most seen procuring the food and assisting when necessary at Cabarete Coffee Company, his talents are as a chef, tour guide, and fisherman. Freddy can be found almost every morning and evening fishing in Cabarete or leading fishing tours through his own tour company, Dominican Fisherman. One of the foremost experts on the North Coast of ocean patterns and marine biodiversity, his skills can also be seen on land with his innate expert knowledge and understanding of wildlife, agriculture, and the biodiversity of our beautiful Caribbean island. Freddy is the lead tour guide at Cabarete Coffee Company, responsible for leading coffee and cacao tours in the mountains of Rio San Juan and Jarabacoa. With 10+ years of experience as an adventure mountain biking guide at Iguana Mama, the first adventure tour company on the North Coast founded by wife, Patricia Suriel, Freddy has seen it all and is always willing and able to answer your questions. Don’t let his quiet demeanor fool you, he holds an insufferable amount of knowledge about the Dominican Republic that he loves to share!
